LEARN Academy is a coding school teaching a new generation of daring and diverse students to be professional web developers.
Challenge
Like so many promising small businesses, LEARN had a vision for impact and excellence that had outgrown their original brand and messaging. From a text-heavy website, a visual identity that fell short, and no real tone of voice, the brand needed a refresh and punchy personality to match it’s diverse community. The company was steadily engaging students in other areas of the country, and desired a brand that reflected where they were going instead of where they’d been.
Opportunity
We worked with the team during strategy to uncover how the brand had evolved since it’s inception and where they wanted to take it for the future. Identifying the unique whitespace they filled apart from other bootcamps and how to use creative to communicate it, we found a happy medium between a total rebrand and a freshening up that allowed them to be recognizable to their loyal community of developers while adding personality to the overall brand (without falling into the trap of a commercial-to-corporate transition).
Solution
Starting with evolved messaging, we rewrote the mission, vision, values, along with the tagline ‘Break the code. Reach new heights.’’ to align with the empathetic mission to go above and beyond for their students and make tech and coding a more approachable and equitable industry. We selected a familiar yet modernized color palette and typography set, and designed a new logo, icon and pattern to give the brand distinction across collateral, from targeted banners to social posts and a streamlined website design. Using animations and illustrated gifs, we also created engaging content for their social channels that elevated the brand experience.
Results
Within months of launching the new site, the company immediately saw an increase in applications and enrollments, even filling up their next two cohorts 3 months ahead of start dates. The team had a renewed sense of confidence in the brand, reflected in content and social initiatives as well as internal clarity around brand communications.
