Verishop is a VC-backed startup, initially designed to instill confidence in e-commerce customers by only selling products from ‘verified’ independent merchants.
Challenge
After initial launch, the brand pivoted into a 3-sided B2B/B2C business model, focused on helping independent brands in various e-commerce sectors (luxury, home goods, fashion, beauty) reach and distribute their offer to discerning customers via intermediary creators/influencers. The challenge posed was how and where to focus the brand identity and marketing message, given the three different stakeholders and a brand name born from a wholly different original concept. The ambition was to restore the brand and business to growth and raise additional venture capital for future expansion.
Solution
We facilitated (virtually) Verishop’s leadership and cross-functional brand team through a strategic branding process. The brand team aligned on challenging the ‘commodity’ and ‘transactional’ nature of e-commerce, standing up for and encouraging more consumer choice and exploration of innovative, value-added and often luxury goods to set and stay ahead of the trends in the fashion, beauty and luxury industries. Once the new positioning and direction for the brand was established, we worked with a copy + art team to develop six illustrative campaign platforms for the brand, including new potential slogans, moodboard directions and tone-of-voice concepts.
Outcome
Verishop used the strategic brand story developed by our team to raise $40MM in Series B venture capital to fund their next stage of growth. The brand has established a ‘cult-like’ following among merchants, creators/influencers and their customers, earning industry accolades as a trend-setter and platform for exploration and discovery of unique, new high-quality goods. Aimed to differentiate itself from other e-commerce startups by creating a marketplace with more hands-on help for luxury brands, Verishop now has over 4,000 brands on its platform, up from 150 at launch, making it one of largest aggregators of independent and emerging retail brands online, with more than 1 million active users per month.
